Happy new year!

The last day of the year… i can barely believe it. This year has been the craziest ever. I discovered many things and opportunities and I know I’ve grown a lot as a person. Not only this was the year I got more involved than ever with fashion but also with this blog. It has been my baby and my most ambitious project. In February it’s going to be a year since I started writing and I can assure you there’s going to be many surprises, a big celebration and tons of posts from my new home, Madrid.

This year has been great for me. Thanks to Coolhunter MX who have believed in me unconditionally and have given me the chance to work in what I love; thanks to Vogue Mexico who gave me the best start for 2011 (i’ll post it soon); my family, who always support me no matter how crazy ideas I have; my boyfriend, who is my number 1 fan and is there for me in the best and worst; and thanks to my friends for making of this year the best one ever. This blog has taken me to incredible places and I’ve met amazing people with it. But specially, thanks to you, dear reader, for taking the time to visit this blog, reading what I’ve got to say and actually liking it. I wish you all the best for 2011!

M (minimalism; Max Mara)

Almost as if we didn’t know it yet, minimalism is going to be the strongest trend for 2011. It was the most dominant trend of the spring collections, from Paris to NY. But we can’t say we didn’t saw it coming. Several ad campaigns of this year were pretty much in the minimalist wave, a pretty good example being my favorite too, the Miu Miu one of fall 2010. Even the Philo fever announced a very slick silhouette, elegant, clean, and most of all, simple. And apparently that’s exactly how every minimalist manifestation wants to be recognized. As elegant and simple as it can be. No wonder Max Mara is completely getting the message. Karolina Kurkova not only looks powerful and fierce, but she pulls off the look with so little effort. The clean suit is going to be a regular in the street style stars like Giovanna Battaglia and Taylor Tomasi Hill next season.

Mario Sorrenti did a wonderful job with this shoot, keeping things simple and focused on the clothes, but what is under the minimalist message? In my opinion, it’s almost a premonition of the year to come. Or at least you can take it beyond your fashion philosophy and make it work in your own life. Sometimes things can be pretty simple. Relax, enjoy and try to see things as they are, a difficult task for such a complicated world, but not impossible. A little piece of advice? Minimalism is all about stripping to the essentials, either in your life or in an extremely fashionable suit, just like this Max Mara white one.

Happy holidays!

Sasha Pivovarova, Caroline Trentini, Lily Donaldson, Mirte Maas, and Patricia Van Der Vliet, all wearing Sarah Burton’s McQueen spring 2011 for Vogue Us. Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.

Definitely one of my favorite collections of the year. Although McQueen’s death was a loss for the fashion world I think Burton is one of the best things we saw this year. Can’t think of a better vision of fantasy in spring 2011 collections. It might be the golden traces, it might be the fantasy or the ethereal looks, but this picture reminds me of holidays. They are full of unexpected surprises, they resume the best things of the year and they’re a reflection of our deepest dreams to come. I wish you all happy holidays!

Editorials of the week

It’s funny these editorials were shoot by three of my favorite photographers featuring three of my favorite models. Ellen Von Unwerth photographed Jessica Stam portraying the urban glam, always with that contrast of hers. Lara Stone goes Italian for the lens of Testino, I completely loved it. The styling of Lanvin along with the Tuscan scenery is perfect and the picture of Lara full of clay and only covered with a robe is iconic, you could think it’s a painting thanks to the beautiful light. In the third editorial Dree Hemingway turns into a Lolita with quite big hair, just like Vuitton’s reference, wearing Miu Miu, Prada and Vuitton. Demarchelier gave us a colorful insight of spring collections.

Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is here! I love this time of the year, setting the tree, decorating the house, Christmas dinners with family and friends, choosing the gifts, even the crowded malls, I love them! I’m a big fan when choosing gifts, I always try to give something personalized and special for that person, something I know they wanted or would love to have. Can’t reveal yet what I bough my family and boyfriend but I can tell you what I will be asking this Christmas. Lucky me if I get something :)!

Alexander McQueen Red Studded Britannia Skull Clutch

Alexander McQueen Gringling gibbons gold heeled show boot
McQueen is my favorite brand ever (and designer). I’ve been dying for a clutch and when I saw these embellished boots I fell in love instantly.

Canon 5D EOS Mark II
Oh god, this is probably my most desired gift. I wanted this camera since 2008 when it went into the market and I think it’s pretty awesome. 21.2 mega-pixels, Full HD video recording 1080 resolution at 30 fps. And if you want to see what can it do go here.

Mykita for Alexandre Herchcovitch sunglasses

Chanel Ice Cube Bag
Both the Alexandre Herchcovitch sunglasses by Mykita and the Ice Cube Chanel bag drove me insane when I saw them in the respective runways. The sunglasses were incredibly colorful along with the SS11 collection. The FW10 collection of Chanel was pretty interesting, having fur and ice as the main elements. This bag was the object of desire for Showstudio and now is mine.

Stefan Strumbel singular wall clock
This Stefan Strumbel wall clocks are the craziest clocks I’ve ever seen. They’re electric, colorful, creepy and quite excentric, and they could be the perfect gift.

Spin magazine Special Edition Turntable
I’ve wanted a turntable since I got the Arctic Monkey’s Favourite Worst Nightmare LP. Since then I started collecting records like We Are Scientists and some Elvis ones. The red box of this turntable makes it even perfect.

100 Contemporary Fashion Designers by Taschen
I’m a huge fan of Taschen books and this two volume compillation is a great gift for fashion lovers. It was edited by Terry Jones, editor and creator of i-D.

Christopher Kane SS11 Orion Dress

Christopher Kane FW 11 Lace and flowers dress
Both dresses need no further introduction, both are beautiful and my favorite pieces of Kane.

Kelly Moore Juju Camera Bag in Walnut
Kelly Moore bags are the best, most practical and very fashion camera bags I’ve seen. They’re a little bit expensive ($249 USD, but they’re worth it). The dividers are adjustable so you have room for lenses, batteries, flashes and more. It’s water resistant and you can find it in several colors.

Hope I can get at least one gift hehe! Happy Christmas everyone!

The big day

Yesterday my cousin was telling the whole family about this wedding she had gone to. She was talking about it being in a garden with a beautiful forest surrounding the ceremony. I instantly thought of Coco Rocha’s wedding, that beautiful ceremony in an English castle and fairy tale like proportions. Who wouldn’t want a wedding like that? It’s true that some women don’t grow up anymore thinking about their weddings as the big day of their lives. But I think it keeps being an important ritual for every woman. We love organizing parties and we love looking good. Why wouldn’t we care about a day that represents who we are and who we will become along with our other half?
I think it’s exciting thinking about a wedding, but there’s nothing like choosing your wedding gown. There are tons to choose, organza, tulle, lace, bustier like, long sleeved, it’s kind of a tricky choice. The key is to find a dress that not only fits your body type and height, but that says something about how you’re feeling and who you are.

Seeing this spread for Singapore Brides Fashion featuring Julia Valimaki, Sasha Luss and Zivile Cibaite, photographed by Zhang Jingna made me think of the perfect dress. If I had to choose one, I would go for the first dress in the first image, the oversized ruffle gown. What would your dream wedding dress look like?

Fashion films of the week IV

Hello! So here are the fashion films of this week (not). Well maybe they're from past weeks too but they're definitely good material so you better watch them!

"Vive la fête" directed by Manuel Nogueira for Elle Brasil feautures Isabel Hickmann, ready to party, including mask and fishbowl purse. Styling by Renata Piza and Beauty by Christian Mourelhe.

Lindsey Wixson stars the new Versace campaign for Vanitas. Directed by Craig McDean.

Coup d'etat directed by Kevin Calero, Montreal student and a talent worth keeping an eye acording to Coute que coute, couldn't agree more. The photography is beautiful and the theme about opression is executed successfully.

More with Google Campaign. I'm seriously organizing a sleepover like this.

Ashley Smith stars the new Christmas Campaign of Topshop. The texture of the film is delightful and in my opinion, Ashley looks quite sexy with the topshop collection. Shot by Angelo Pennetta and styled by Francesca Burns.

Body Couture feautures Alessandra Ambrosio in a gorgeous and visually agressive film for Vogue Brasil.

Pirelli's Mythology

A year ago Terry Richardson made of Brasil the Eden. Now it was time for Mr. Lagerfeld to be the creative mind and photographer behind the 38th edition of the Pirelli Calendar for 2011. This time the theme was “Mythology”, featuring Lagerfeld’s protégé Baptiste Giabiconi as Apollo, Julianne Moore as Hera and an imponent Daria Werbowy as Artemis among other recognized models like Freja Beha, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Erin Wasson, Heidi Mount, etc. The same Lagerfeld said “actresses and models bring these new heroes to life and depict a new concept of the beautiful” and he wasn’t wrong. These individuals are the contemporary symbol of human beauty, this time, representing the classic civilizations and the Old World. 36 photos, 24 subjects, and a Hasselblad made of this one a beautiful calendar.

Moss á la Bardot

Kate Moss goes irreverently hot as a modern and brunette Bardot for the lens of Nick Knight for the January issue of Vogue Italia. She looks gorgeous and sexy in this retro editorial, the garters along with the cat eyes and the big hair make the styling perfect for Moss, definitely one of my favorite editorials of her. The voyeuristic style Knight created made me think of the old school Playboy, almost to sexy to be allowed.
