The end of 2011

Wow, 2012? Really? I can't think of a year that has gone as quickly as this one. For me it's been one of the best years in my life. I can't believe that a year ago I was packing for Madrid... tempus fugit! Living in another country was an incredible experience and I'll always remember it as a dream. For me, it will always be one of the fondest memories I have.

I have to say, there is a weird sense of ending this year. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I haven't really realize it's December yet, or maybe it's all that chit chat about the end of the world. Weeks ago I saw Melancholia, from Lars Von Trier, and I can tell you it's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. The way he and Kirsten Dunst portray the end of humanity is poetically beautiful, in such a sad and melancholic way you wouldn't imagine those things could coexist. And somehow it's exactly how I feel about the year reaching to its end. There's certain melancholia about the things I lived this year, but they were insanely beautiful, and even if they have reached the end, as everything does in this world, I'm very happy to have lived them.

In the other hand, I couldn't think of a better way to close 2011 than appearing in the online post of "Bloggers' Style in New Year's Eve" along with Andy from StyleScrapbook, Denni from Chicmuse and Kari from Your Mother Should Know, who is now in charge of the invited blogger spot (be sure to read her!).

What do you think of my Christmas tree? You can check the full spread here to see one of my favorite outfits for New Year's Eve and what my fellow bloggers wore.
I have to say goodbye now, but we will meet again in 2012. Wish you the best and most beautiful year of your life, full of joy, desires, passion, shoes and a lot of love. Thank you, to all of you.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is finally here! This is definitely one of my favorite holidays and every year I enjoy all the little rituals and traditions, cooking, setting the tree, decorating the house, etc. And even though this year has been quite strange, it's the perfect time to celebrate our families and friends and to be grateful for all the love we have in our lives.

I can't thank enough to all the people who are in my life for being such amazing persons in every aspect, to my family and friends and to every person who has taught me something.

To every person who reads me, I wish you the best best best Christmas of all time! I leave you with the 24th video of Love Magazine, Lily Donaldson dancing to my favorite Christmas song, Rockin' Aroung the Christmas Tree, enjoy!

Black and White Night by Privalia

Last week Privalia organized the last bloggers' night of the year in Celeste House. Needless to say, it was a huge success where friends, work and fun met in the same place. Martinis, macarons and tons of pictures made of this night a true delight. Thanks so much to Privalia and to Bel for the invitation and the lovely gifts, you really know how to throw a party!

Birthday and gifts!

Valerie van der Graaf photographed by Ellen von Unwerth for the Lavazza’s 2012 Calendar.

Well Happy Birthday to me! Can't believe I'm turning 22 today... No wait, actually I can. I have a job, a school debt and a serious relationship, I'm such a grownup now... Anyway it's never too late to party and have lots of cake and metallic balloons like in this Ellen Von Unwerth photograph for the Lavazza Calendar!

In a weird way, today I'll be giving gifts instead of receiving them, why? Well I totally forgot to post the winner of the Halloween Fever giveaway! It was a tough one, I got to say I loved several costumes but the ultimate winner is Mrs. Kayla Karos and her revealing Lady Gaga costume! Loved the bustier and the glasses, you'll have your perfume soon!

Though it wouldn't bother to have a Birthday wishlist.... it would look just like this!
What you think, too much black for a birthday present to me? Then I'll gladly keep the Miu Miu's, thankyou!

Halloween Fever (and giveaway!)

Last Thursday I attended the party for the Halloween Fever perfume from Jesus del Pozo. Tons of friends, a spooky house and chandeliers made of this night a delight, the mood was just perfect to start the Halloween parties round up. To say the perfume is good is not enough, it smells like mystery and elegance should do. As soon as they sent me the perfume I went head over heels for it, and guess what? I have one for you! Yeaaah, giveawaaaay! The dynamic will be the following:

-  follow @hwnperfumes_es on twitter
-  follow me on twitter @madykarla
- in the comments section you should put a link of a picture of you with your Halloween costume (name and email as well) (don't cheat kiddos! no taking pictures to other people's costumes ja!). Be dareful and go beyond your imagination, the best costume wins!

The contest ends at midnight Monday 31, Mexico time, and the winner will be announced on Wednesday.  Soooo what you waiting for??!! Get dressed, go out and impress, this is the Halloween fever...

PS. Everyone can participate, it doesn't matter if your from Mexico or not, you all have a chance :)

Costumes from the Runway

Every time I have to dress up for a costume party, either for Halloween or a thematic one, I fantasize about being dressed in McQueen; maybe like a princess with a red cape from the AW08 collection, or a zombie with horns with a lovely ripped lace dress in white like the one from Widows of Culloden, the AW06 show. Truth is, the narrative Alexander McQueen used to imprint in each and every garment was something special and unique, and incredibly well suited for the costume matters.

Nevertheless there are other designers that have tried to represent some kind of story into their collections. Taking inspiration from the runways for your Halloween costumes might be a great solution to wind up with a pretty interesting disguise for the night of the dead.

Shoes, destiny and Halloween

Oh October, how much I love you. Yesterday instead of going to the gym, as I should have, I decided it was time to set up the Halloween decoration. Spider webs, pumpkins and a little kid disguised as a ghost (creepy) were the props for a terrifying but pg-13 facade. The thing is, I love this time of the year, the costumes, the mysterious vibe, the horror movies (which I only see in Halloween, I'm such a coward) and the partieees! If as a kid I loved trick or treat now I'm head over heels for Halloween parties. Last year I spent almost a whole month making my Black Swan costume (nobody knew who I was except Darren Aronofsky fans...) but this year destiny popped up at my door my work and delivered some beautiful red sequined Mary Janes from Asos...

Can you guess my costume?

Hourglass silhouettes + shoulder pads + fur + dropped waits lines + boxy shoulders + side reverse rolls + gloves = great 40's style
Go on and try it!
