Ana Locking FW 11/12

Apparently this post went to the bottom of the list for quite some time but here it is. In February I had the opportunity to go to one of my favorite designers' fashion show, Ana Locking, at Cibeles Fashion Week. I've always admired her use of color and the construction of a very geometric silhouette, her personal signature; her Fall/Winter 10 collection is a clear example of this and remains one of my favorites ever.

This collection (FW 2011-2012) named Stance was no exception of her impeccable use of geometry and colors, it was intended to be a collection that represented structure, elegance and posture. The runway started with coats and dresses in cobalt blue, light blue and camel with touches of grey. Men's jackets were flawless, having a straight silhouette, a theme that was recurrent in all of the collection. Antagonistic patterns followed, consisting in the contrast between light and bright colors, short and long proportions and flat and draped fabrics. Pale pink, mustard, crimson red and some iridescence pink were part of the palette.  Leather gloves, dark lipstick and squared smokey eyes gave the collection the classic winter touch. The collection was a clear example of the balance between chaos and order, a technique Ana has refined with time and has made her a very talented designer; the combination between fabrics, patterns and colors clearly formed a beautiful collection, one of the best of this Cibeles Fashion Week.

Ashes and smoke: Chanel FW11

The Grand Palais has turned into many worlds for the sake of Chanel. We've been in the Arctic, a farm, Shanghai, Last year in Marienbad, and so on. This time we were in a remote land of volcanic rock, with coal, ashes and smoke everywhere. A very somber stage compared to the past ones but that reflected exactly the essence of this collection, dark, tough & strong. There was even this manly feeling throughout the whole collection, reflected in baggy trousers and work boots. 

Nevertheless the Chanel factor couldn't be missed with the pressence of tweed jackets in different versions such as a simple model with herringbone pattern or the more traditional model with the embellished buttons in contrast to the industrial workwear. The long coats and capes were a personal favorite along with the evening wear, a combination between sheer organza, fur and leather gloves. It is hard to say what Chanel reminded me the most, maybe a phoenix emerging from the ashes, an industrial factory or volcanic traces, but it was undoubtedly strong, a tough attempt to be closer to sportswear, even though that's not Chanel's puissance.

Last week 080 Barcelona Fashion took place in Spain, presenting one of the three fashion weeks to come the next weeks in the country. This issue was won by an unanimous vote for the pop collection of Krizia Robustella. Bright colors, red and pink predominating, and a sporty vibe conformed her winner collection. In this article, i-D magazine selected the best designers of the event, Cardona Bonache with her black over blue collection, Karlotalaspalas with all-in-camel looks, Juun J, which amazed me with the tailoring and silhouettes of the jackets.  To read the full article click here.
